Da veris à vulgaris - From veris to vulgaris

Existem 3 espécies de Primula na Irlanda, sendo uma delas um híbrido que ocorre naturalmente onde as outras duas espécies coexistem. Membros pertencentes à família Primulaceae produzem as suas flores sensivelmente entre Março e Maio, sendo que a Primula vulgaris pode começar a florir logo desde Dezembro. Em contraste, a flora portuguesa conta apenas com uma espécie, a Primula vulgaris.

Ambas as espécies estão vigorosamente presentes um pouco por todos os cantos da Irlanda, portanto não é difícil dar de caras com uma delas. Apesar de ambas serem um pouco versáteis em termos de habitat onde ocorrem, existem porém algumas particularidades chave num determinado ecossistema que facilmente nos indica uma grande possibilidade do aparecimento de uma destas espécies.

A Primula vulgaris (sinónimo Primula acaulis) gosta particularmente de zonas mais sombrias como os bosques por exemplo. Enquanto que a Primula veris é adepta de mais exposição solar e é facilmente encontrada em pradarias e zonas de pasto. Ora a exposição solar é o que parece ser, em termos grosseiros, o que diferencia o habitat de cada uma. Em suma: mais sombra Primula vulgaris, mais sol Primula veris. As bermas das estradas são outro dos locais onde facilmente se pode encontrar ambas.

There are 3 species of Primula you can find in the wild in Ireland, one of which is a naturally occurring hybrid in zones where the other two species coexist. They are members of the Primulaceae family, their flowering period is from March to May, being that Primula vulgaris can begin to flower as early as December. In contrast, the Portuguese flora has only one species, Primula vulgaris.

Both species are vigorously present all over Ireland, so it is not difficult to meet one of them. Both are somewhat versatile in terms of habitat where they occur. You can check for some key peculiarities in a given ecosystem that easily indicates a great possibility of their appearance.

Primula vulgaris (synonym Primula acaulis) likes particularly darker areas such as woods for example. While Primula veris (cowslip) is more sun-savvy and is easily found in prairies and grazing areas. Now the sun exposure is what appears to be, in rough terms, what differentiates the habitat from each. In short: more shade Primula vulgaris, more sun Primula veris. The roadsides are another of the places where you can easily find both.
