Esta semana decidi num dos dias fazer aquilo que mais gosto: escolher um local que nunca visitei e explorar minunciosamente as espécies que por lá existem. O resultado não podia ter sido mais surpreendente.

This week I decided on one of the days to do what I like the most: I chose a place I have never visited and thoroughly explore the species that exist there. The result could not have been more surprising.

O local escolhido foi o Irishtown Nature Park, bem como todo o percurso costeiro desde o Sean Moore Park até ao The Great South Wall Parking, passando pela Poolbeg Beach. São cerca de 3.1km (mais 3.1km para o regresso).

The chosen location was Irishtown Nature Park, as well as the entire coastal trail from Sean Moore Park to The Great South Wall Parking, passing through Poolbeg Beach. It is about 3.1km (plus 3.1km for the return).

A variedade de habitats a longo de todo o percurso é inacreditável tendo em conta que estamos em plena cidade. Floresta, prado, praia, ou dique são alguns dos ecossistemas que podemos conhecer.

The variety of habitats along the entire trail is unbelievable considering that we are in the middle of the city. Forest, meadow, beach, or dike are some of the ecosystems that we can explore.

Biodiversidade | Biodiversity

A variedade de seres vivos existentes nesta zona é enorme. Em cerca de 2 horas tive a possibilidade de registar mais de 55 espécies pertencentes a mais de 20 famílias diferentes. Na realidade, tendo em conta que muitas espécies já tinham florido, iam florir ou simplesmente as fotografias ficaram desfocadas, acredito ter visto ao todo entre 80 e 100 espécies diferentes. São número impressionantes e que vêm provar que precisamos de proteger intensamente todas estas zonas naturais.

Quero também realçar que apesar da grande maioria das espécies serem nativas da Irlanda, pude também encontrar algumas que exóticas, plantadas indevidamente ou simplesmente escaparam dos jardins. Vejam e tirem as vossas conclusões.

The variety of living beings in this area is enormous: in about 2 hours I had the possibility to register more than 55 species belonging to more than 20 different families. In fact, taking into account that many species had already flowered, were going to flower or simply the photos were unfocused, I believe I saw between 80 and 100 different species in total. These are impressive numbers and a big prove that we need to protect intensely all these natural areas.

I also want to emphasize that although the vast majority of species are native to Ireland, I was also able to find some that were exotic, probably improperly planted or simply garden escaped. Give a check and take your conclusions.
