The Trip - April 2022

 Quando? | When?

April of 2022 was the beginning of the field trips season. We were on tour for about 9 days. It was almost 200km walked that were full of adventures, challenges, good memories and, obviously, lots of plants.

A Equipa | The Team

I had the pleasure to have my friends Alexis and Rita during the trip. He is ecologist and botanist and she is Marine Biologist. all of us share the same passion for the contact with Nature, biodiversity conservation and the fascination for the Living Beings in particular those from the Platae kingdom.

Rita is my best friend and I know her for a long time. This trip was making our dream come true. It was the first time that we had the chance to travel together outside Portugal to do exactly what we love the most: exploring the Nature.

Alexis I met him once I moved to Ireland as we are both members of BSBI. Both of us we are crazy for wildflowers! This was also the first time we both planned a trip together with the main goal of recording some European flora and the experience was stunning!

Flora / Fauna

Unfortunately, we also recorded some exotic species that are a clear sign that we have a huge role to play in terms of conservation of the biodiversity, and protection of the species that are native of this European countries.

Preparação da Viagem | Preparation of the trip

In order that everything worked perfectly this trip was stated to be planned slowly with 2 months in advance. The flights and the stays were our first preoccupation was we wanted to get the cheapest prices possible.

Next we started to decide which would be our main goals so we could decide the proper places that we wanted to visit.

Facebook and Twitter groups specialized in Botany, official websites such as Flora-on and the amazing app iNaturalist were important tools to help us to outline our trip. I want to thank some contacts that helped us a lot such as Samuel and António for some portuguese sites and to Mario and Michi for some Austrian places.

Most of the places visited I already knew them beforehand so we were most of the trip with a proper and safe direction of what we would expect. through the internet we got an idea of the species that will be flowering during the dates of our trip. We also did some video calls to finalize and decide everything of our trip.
