Foi
um mês pouco chuvoso e frio comparativamente com anos anteriores. Algumas
espécies estão a ter dificuldade em aparecer devido à ausência das condições
climatéricas referidas, enquanto outras aparecem precocemente pois pensam que a
Primavera já está aí. Abaixo mostro algumas das beldades em floração no meu
jardim agora.
It was a month with little rain and cold, comparing
with the past years. Some species are having trouble sprouting due to the
absence of the climate conditions mentioned, while others are appearing early
because they think Spring is coming. Below I show some beauties blooming now in
my garden.
O género botânico Lachenalia pertence à família Asparagaceae e é pouco conhecido
pela maioria. Tem +100
espécies diferentes conhecidas até ao momento. Esta planta é originária da
África do Sul. Por não gostar de solos pesados, como o
do meu jardim, a melhor forma para lhe dar alguma felicidade foi enterrá-la com
o vaso, cortando o fundo para haver maior passagem de água. Usei um substrato maioritariamente arenoso. Foi um
desafio fazê-la florir. Ainda maior será fazê-la
florir novamente no próximo ano!
Lachenalia
botanical genus belongs to Asparagaceae family, uncommon for most of us. It
has +100 different species known to date.
The plant below it's from South Africa. In spite of not tolerating heavy soils, like my garden’s, I had to plant it into its vase, by cutting the bottom of the vase to increase
water drainage. I used a sandy substract. It was
a challenge to make it bloom. Which will be even greater
to make it bloom again next year.

A Salvia verbenaca (família Lamiaceae) também entrou em floração. Adoro o tom claro e suave das
suas flores, bem como o seu pequeno porte. Perfeita para colocar junto às
margens do caminho.
The Salvia verbenaca (Lamiaceae
family) also bloomed. I love the light and soft tone of its
flowers, as well as its small size. It's perfect to put near the margins of the
pathway.

O Bosque dos Bolbos é a minha zona
preferida do jardim. Inspirada nos ecossistemas florestais
europeus, onde habitam muitas espécies bulbosas. Estou à espera que
muitas espécies diferentes entrem em floração nos próximos meses. Para já, o Muscari
neglectum dá o pontapé de saída.
The Bulbs’ Woods is my
favourite area of my garden. Inspired on the European forest ecosystems, where we can find many
bulbous species. I'm waiting for many different species to bloom in the next
months. For now, the Muscari neglectum gives the blooming kick off.

Os Crocus (família Iridaceae)
começaram também em floração. Embora o tamanho diminuto das suas flores, as
suas cores tornam-os muito chamativos. Existem cerca de 2 espécies selvagens em
Portugal.

also started blooming. Although the small size of its flowers, its colours make them very showy. There are about 2 wild species in Portugal.

As Primulas (família Primulaceae) começam a mostrar o seu
esplendor. Em Portugal, infelizmente, só existe uma espécie em estado selvagem
- Primula acaulis. Na nossa vizinha
Espanha existem cerca de 8 espécies, enquanto que na Europa o número supera as
3 dezenas.
The Primroses (Primulaceae family) start showing its splendour. In Portugal,
unfortunetly, there is only one species in the wild - Primula acaulis. In our neighbor
Spain there are about 8 species, whereas in Europe there are +30 species from Primula genus.
