Género Salvia (Família Lamiaceae) é o meu género botânico preferido.

Centenas e centenas de espécies diferentes adaptadas a condições diferentes. Na minha opinião, elas são muito versáteis e conseguem moldar-se em muitos casos ao ambiente em que são colocadas, mesmo não sendo este o seu preferido.

Há muito tempo que tento adquirir novos exemplares de Salvias, é uma autêntica febre! Tenho espécies nativas de diferentes países do mundo e os resultados têm sido incríveis. Os animais polinizadores adoram e eu adoro as combinações que elas fazem nos canteiros. Podemos brincar com cores, texturas, formas, portes, aromas, ... uma salada de frutas do sentidos que todos deviam apostar. Conheçam alguns dos locais que mais aprecio!

Salvia genus (Lamiaceae family) is my favorite botanical genus.

Hundreds and hundreds of different species adapted to different conditions. In my opinion, they are very versatile and can in many cases shape the environment in which they are placed, even if this is not their preferred.

I've been trying to get new species of Salvias for a long time, it's a real addiction! I have native species from different countries of the world and the results have been incredible. The pollinators love it and I love the combinations they make in the flowerbeds. We can play with colors, textures, shapes, sizes, aromas, ... a fruit salad of the senses that everyone should bet. Get to know some of the places I love best!

A Salvia greggii 'Salmon dance' possuí flores altas em tons de salmão que contrastam com as suas vizinhas: a Salvia farinacea 'Snow white' com flores brancas, as flores laranja vibrante do Ornithogalum dubium, e com a folhagem aromática e incomum da Salvia elegans 'Golden delicious' e do Pelargonium x asperum 'Variegated'.

Salvia greggii 'Salmon dance' has tall salmon flowers that contrast with its neighbors: Salvia farinacea 'Snow white' with white flowers, vibrant orange flowers of the Ornithogalum dubium, and with the aromatic and unusual foliage of Salvia elegans 'Golden Delicious' and the Pelargonium x asperum 'Variegated'.

A Salvia farinacea mostra as suas vistosas e precoces flores azuis por entre a densa Salvia elegans com as suas aromáticas folhas com aroma a ananás e, em breve, o seu espectáculo floral em tons de vermelho.

Salvia farinacea shows its showy and early blue flowers through the dense Salvia elegans with its aromatic pineapple-scented leaves and, soon, its floral show in shades of red.

A Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' está impecavelmente enquadrada de forma a que todos os sentidos sejam apurados! O local desta Salvia contrasta com o porte invulgar da Euphorbia x martinii 'Tiny Tim', a folhagem dourada da Salvia elegans 'Golden delicious' e a variegação do Pelargonium x asperum 'variegated'. Uma combinação poderosa e ofuscante a nível floral: as flores azuis da 'Caradonna', as vermelho vivo da 'Golden delicious', as rosa esbranquiçadas do Pelargonium e as verde amareladas da Euphorbia. Finalmente, até a nível do olfacto podemos desfrutar de uma deliciosa combinação surpreendente: o aroma comum de uma Salvia na 'Caradonna', o cheiro doce a ananás da 'Golden delicious' e o refrescante aroma a mentol do Pelargonium. Ao lado (não visível na fotografia abaixo) ainda está o rasteiro Phlox subulata de flores brancas e a Lysimachia nummularia com flores amarelas.

The Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' is impeccably framed so that all the senses are cleared! The location of this Salvia contrasts with the unusual size of Euphorbia x martinii 'Tiny Tim', the golden foliage of Salvia elegans 'Golden Delicious' and the variegation of  Pelargonium x asperum 'Variegated'. A powerful blinding floral combination: Caradonna's blue blossoms, vibrant 'Golden Delicious' red blossoms, whitish Pelargonium blossoms and Euphorbia yellows. Finally, even at the smell level, we can enjoy a surprisingly delicious combination: the common scent of a Salvia in the 'Caradonna', the sweet smell of the pineapple of 'Golden delicious' and the refreshing menthol aroma of the Pelargonium. Beside (not visible in the photograph below) is still the creepy Phlox subulata of white flowers and the Lysimachia nummularia with yellow flowers.

Igualmente bem enquadrada está a Salvia nemorosa 'Sensation blue' com flores semelhantes à 'Caradonna'. Esta está combinada com a rasteira e de flores amarelas Lysimachia procumbens e com a vistosa Incarvillea delavaye de flores rosa.

Equally well framed is the Salvia nemorosa 'Sensation blue' with flowers similar to 'Caradonna'. This is combined with the creeping and yellow flowers of Lysimachia procumbens and with the eye-catching Incarvillea delavaye with its pink flowers.

A Salvia nemorosa 'Sensation white' tem uma floração vistosa e prolongada. É uma planta bastante resistente e de pequeno porte e no meu jardim ela está enquadrada na zona onde está grande parte da coleção do género Thymus. Rodeada pelas flores amarelas do Hypericum, as rosadas do Thymus pulegioides e em breve o rosa forte das Echinacea. 

The Salvia nemorosa 'Sensation white' has a showy and prolonged flowering. It is a very sturdy and small plant and in my garden it is framed in the area where much of the collection of the genus Thymus is located. Surrounded by the yellow flowers of Hypericum, the rosy flowers of the Thymus pulegioides and soon the Echinacea's vibrant pink flowers.

Com dois tons diferentes de roxo a Salvia greggii 'Mirage deep purple' e o Plectranthus caninus funcionam muito bem juntas. A juntar à dança, a Diosma hirsuta 'Sunset gold' dá o toque final com a sua folhagem dourada e pequenas flores brancas. É de notar ainda que estas três espécies, além das flores, contrastam também muito bem devido à sua folhagem com diferentes cores, formas, texturas e aromas. Sim! Todas elas possuem um agradável aroma!

With two different shades of purple the Salvia greggii 'Mirage deep purple' and the Plectranthus caninus work very well together. In addition, the Diosma hirsuta 'Sunset gold' gives the finishing touch with its golden foliage and small white flowers. It should be noted that these three species, besides flowers, also contrast very well due to their foliage with different colors, shapes, textures and aromas. Yes! They all have a pleasant aroma!

Por fim, o delicioso aroma a melão da Salvia elegans 'Honey melon' faz um belo arranjo com o Ilex aquifolium, com a Dianella tasmanica 'Variegated', e à direita (apesar de não visível na fotografia) a magnífica floração da Salvia microphylla 'Hot lips' e do Geranium 'Nimbus'. Mais uma vez, este canteiro jogou com os diferentes cores, texturas e formas da folhagem, bem como com os diferentes portes das plantas, aroma, frutificação e floração. Um dos meus locais preferidos!

Finally, the delicious melon scent of the Salvia elegans 'Honey Melon' makes a beautiful arrangement with the Ilex aquifolium, the Dianella tasmanica 'Variegated', and with (on the right though not visible in the photograph) the magnificent flowering of the Salvia microphylla 'Hot lips' and the Geranium 'Nimbus'. Once again, this flowerbed played with the different colors, textures and shapes of the foliage, as well as with different sizes of plants, aroma, fruiting and flowering. One of my favorite places!
